In recent years, Trasauto Logistica has specialized in the transport of luxury cars, vintage cars, supercars, racing vehicles, and for some specific routes, such as France-Morocco, also prototypes and semi-equipped vehicles for the most important automotive brands in Europe.

The automotive industry has recorded significant growth among French industrial sectors. And, thanks to its distinctive operational capacity, in particular this applies to some main interports, it can take charge of any type of transport. Even more so if we consider the routes to and from Morocco.

The France-Morocco route is one of our company's historic routes. We built solid ties long before French accession to the Schengen area and the creation of community trade mechanisms.

A fundamental characteristic of the vehicles used in transport is the exclusive and safe preparation of the transported goods. This setup is designed, developed and created to guarantee safe, dedicated transport aimed at protecting all goods from any type of risk.

How combined intermodal transport of a supercar works

Intermodal transport has acquired an increasingly crucial role in the luxury car transport scenario over the last fifteen years. And it is particularly suitable for loads of large dimensions or quantities, which must travel long distances on average (over 250-300 km).

Thanks to intermodal transport, we have moved from the use of individual transport systems to an integrated use of them to allow their optimal use and the reduction of significant waste caused by the overlapping of functions.

In fact, this type of transport is carried out, as the name suggests, with the aid of a combination of different means in the main stretch by rail, by waterway or by sea, while in the initial and/or final stretch it is carried out by road.

It is clearly a useful transport "method" when goods, in our case supercars, have to travel long and very long distances.

Here the supercar is placed at the factory, or at the forwarder's warehouse, in a specific container, more precisely loading unit (UTI), from where it is not moved until it reaches the final destination which, as mentioned, occurs using at least two or more different shipping methods.

This lack of intermediate manipulations evidently guarantees a lower risk of damage, a lower cost of transhipment between different types of vehicles and often also guarantees greater speed in carrying out the transport.

The supercar comes in a specific container from where it is not moved until it reaches its final destination.

For intercontinental intermodal transport for long-distance import/export, which involves maritime transport, ISO containers and ISO tanks are used, which can be loaded onto container ships, freight trains and intermodal trailers.

The characteristic of intermodal transport is precisely that of avoiding breakage of the load, which remains within the same unit, from the beginning to the end of the transport cycle.

The difficulties of transporting a luxury car. Everything you need to know about transporting a supercar

Super performance, timeless shapes, highly refined mechanics, cutting-edge technological solutions, searing acceleration, here is the identikit of a supercar, a vehicle that is almost impossible not to notice on the streets, having a very intriguing and personal style.

Generally a supercar is recognized by one aspect above all: it is the typical sports car that presents a very high level of luxury.

Not to mention the performance: as soon as you press the accelerator pedal, the supercar sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in record times, just a few seconds.

Supercars are cars that are built in the name of luxury and boundless magnificence, generally they are also models in limited editions and at prices that are certainly not within everyone's reach.

Transporting a supercar means satisfying the need to move a load, in this case precious, from a place of origin to a specific destination, in the most effective and efficient way possible.

A transport is effective when it meets the customer's needs (for example in terms of speed, safety, flexibility), and it is efficient when it obtains the expected result, minimizing the use of resources (money, fuel, etc.).

It could happen, however, that our supercar needs to use multiple modes of transport combined to reach a destination.

Transporting a luxury car may seem like a simple operation. However, you need to pay attention to some important details:

  • Make sure the car bodywork is clean to view and verify the condition of any scratches or dents before loading and unloading the vehicle
  • Make the car as light as possible, it is advisable that it has less than half a full tank
  • Check that the registration document or a copy is present inside the car
  • Remove visible objects so that they do not attract attention when the driver is resting and the car transporter is parked
  • Send a photo of the vehicle when booking so that we can establish the type of ramp and the vehicle to use for loading.

THE TRANSPORT OF A SUPERCAR FRANCE-MAROCCO: A DELICATE AND COMPLEX OPERATION

Europe has become Morocco's first trading partner.

As might be expected, this trade between Europe and Morocco translates into an increased flow of goods by road. The emerging need is that shippers on both sides of the strait must comply with regulations. This is important in the choice of specialized companies to which to delegate transport on these routes. Because it is necessary to carry out all the required customs formalities and obtain the specific documentation.

Transporting a Bugatti Veyron. On the France-Marocco route, safety comes first

Most car enthusiasts are also dreamers. Raise your hand if, at least for once, you haven't fantasized about parading through the streets in a shiny dream car. And among the dream cars there is one that has attracted the attention of the entire world since its debut as the fastest car in the world.

We are talking about the Bugatti Veyron, a very discussed car. It was made in just 450 examples, of course, looking at the technical data sheet, the numbers were mind-boggling: 16-cylinder W-shaped quad-turbo engine, 7.993 cm3, 1.001 HP (736 kW at 6.000 rpm), maximum torque of 1.250 Nm between 2.200 and 5.500 rpm. Declared maximum speed of 407 km/h, from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,5 seconds.

The gem in question is owned by Frederic Spark, a French manager with a passion for motors, who entrusted us with the delicate transport of his supercar in view of his imminent move to Casablanca, Morocco, to take on the role of CEO of a multinational oil and gas extraction company.

A luxury car from Toulouse to Casablanca: the possible itineraries on the France-Morocco route

The distance to be covered for the transport of the Bugatti from France to Morocco, to be precise from Toulouse to Casablanca, was considerable, we are talking about almost 2.000 kilometres. And with it, the difficulty of managing changes at the hubs and predicting the always possible setbacks in an estimate that appears realistic, even if prudential.

We have planned two possible itineraries together with our customer for the transport of his supercar. In both possibilities, his little gem would not have run any risk because with the changes in the means available, as well as the use of a suitable container, the risks would have been significantly reduced.

The containers in question are built to be compatible with different transport combinations. The Bugatti would have been loaded only once and then moved without problems from one vehicle to another. This condition of efficiency would have significantly reduced downtime and costs relating to each individual phase.

But let's go back to the itineraries, there was a need, right from the start, for an intermodal logistics plan.

The first thing necessary to establish was the budget available to the dr. Spark. Our client was aware that the route, using several carriers, required a high budget, but at the same time he also did not have great expectations regarding speed. Rather, understandably, he cared about the integrity of the car and respecting the estimated delivery times.

The distance to be covered for the transport of the Bugatti from France to Morocco was approximately 2.000 kilometres.

We have proposed two options, one faster, but also more expensive, and one much slower, but no less efficient, and moreover less expensive.

In the first case the expedition, classified as faster because it was carried out for most of the route by plane, starting from Toulouse by train would have reached Marseille in just over 6 hours, and then crossed the whole of France by plane and reached its destination in Casablanca in further 2 hours and 30 minutes

All very convenient and quick, but the second option remained to be evaluated by the customer: in this case the supercar would reach Casablanca starting, again from Toulouse but, this time, by road, reaching Gibraltar in about 15 hours of travel, and then continuing by ship to your destination and take just over 5 hours of further travel.

The choice was now up to Dr. Spark: speed or longer times? All always in safety.

The best solution for Toulouse-Casablanca transport

To our client, the solution that first exploited road transport in France, precisely from Toulouse to the port of Gibraltar, and then continued by sea with Ro-Ro transport to the port of Casablanca, seemed the best option.

It was a France-Morocco intermodal solution.

In fact, most of the journey would have been carried out by land, and only partially by sea, leaving road transport to take delivery of the vehicle up to the port hub only in the final phase.

The time calculated for the shipment to Casablanca, overall with the intermodal solution, amounted to approximately 20 hours: almost 15 for road transport and approximately 6 hours for maritime transport, and the loading/unloading between one carrier and another, both in the initial phase and for delivery to the destination.

Times that absolutely had to be respected and left no room for improvisation.

BUREAUCRACY AND LOGISTIC SOLUTIONS IN SUPERCAR TRANSPORT FRANCE-MOROCCO

80% of goods in Italy travel by road, while 60% of our imports and 50% of exports pass through maritime transport.

The potential is there, the resources too (at least the essential ones), but the bureaucracy and the high taxation present, and expected for the future, slow down the development and competitiveness of the sector.

What causes the greatest difficulty in working with Morocco is all the required operational documentation: customs, ferries, exchange management, etc.

Meticulously completing all paperwork is the key to developing the business and providing good customer service.

Before shipping a supercar. All the necessary documentation

Despite what you might imagine, the procedures for shipping a luxury car abroad are rather simple. This is a particular type of vehicle deregistration, the practice that "cancels" the car from the French registry.

If you want to transfer the vehicle abroad, all you have to do is register at the dedicated online desk, attach your identity documents, a document certifying ownership of the car (such as the ownership certificate) and your vehicle registration document. Alternatively, it is also possible to show up at the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country to which you are moving and hand over the license plates to the diplomatic office staff. They will then carry out the procedure.

Law 120 of 11/9/2020 requires you to submit the request for removal before moving abroad.

All provided that the vehicle, in the meantime, has already been re-registered abroad and that, therefore, a copy of the registration certificate of the country of destination is produced.

Trasauto Logistica: the partner for the safety of your transport

At Trasauto Logistica we firmly believe in the advantages of intermodal transport.

Intermodal rail transport today represents 32% of the complete loads handled by our organization. In addition to the benefits that the mode allows for shipments, such as the possibility of loading up to a weight of 44 tons instead of 40, the advantages for the environment are also notable: it is estimated that CO2 emissions decrease by up to 70%.

Our transport service, designed for supercars, is entrusted to transporters who deal exclusively with car transport. The use of containers dedicated to transport use innovative safety systems, so as to prevent the car from suffering damage caused by any stress or movement during the journey.

All cars, before being loaded onto the means of transport, are inspected externally by our professionals. Our meticulous attention will be guaranteed by photo documents that our transporters will take for each side of the car. Which, therefore, ascertain the real external conditions of the vehicle.

Attention to detail is synonymous with professionalism and everything starts from hygiene. For every car we transport we guarantee the application of a protective film on the steering wheel and gear lever and the integrity of the driving seat is also guaranteed by a total protection plastic cover.

Each type of intercontinental transport by road, sea or air requires rigorous compliance with logistical and legal regulations which requires the workers called upon to transport the goods to have multi-faceted preparation, which varies based on the type of transport and the country of destination.

No expedition can be improvised, and we are aware of the intrinsic complexity of every transport, even more so if it takes place between different continents. Each plan must be studied in detail to exclude the risk of delays and waste of money.
